Big Bang Theory Roadblock

Written by Nathan Savant, Staff Writer

The number one comedy on CBS “The Big Bang Theory” is on the track  for its eighth season, but  according to hypable.com, the series encountered a roadblock leading up to this season. The main stars had been negotiating new contracts for the eighth season concerning payment for each episode, pushing the air date from July 30th  back to Aug. 6.

In  previous seasons, the actors were making $350,000. With the contract dispute the season might not have gone through with production. The main stars of the show Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting have agreed on a contract that gives them $1 million for each episode and for three years of production not unlike the cast of the hit TV show “Friends”.  The three years of production is for seasons eight, nine, ten , and eleven.

Although the three stars had agreed with the new terms, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg had not yet signed the contract at this point in time. They believed that since the show has increased in popularity they should get the raise in pay. “… the studio made a take-it-or-leave-it offer and a deadline…” said variety.com, because of the two co-stars negotiations that had halted the production for the new season. The co-stars had been offered $350,000 dollars per episode for seasons eight, nine, ten, and eleven as opposed to the previous payment of $100,000.

Some fans think that this is unfair, because the co-stars are such an important part of the show and that the other stars have been offered $1 million per episode. With the offer that the producers made the co-stars had to either take the deal or be cut from the show. If they had refused the show would have just continued without them and the writers would have to write a new story line without the co-stars.

With the deal made the two co-stars have agreed to the contract and will resume playing the roles as Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali. Fans are now looking forward to the new season and the comedy the show offers.
