To kneel or not to kneel
National anthem controversy in the NFL
October 5, 2017
When you think of football, baseball, or even hockey games, everyone will remember the national anthem. Even if you have never been to a game, you will still hear it play on TV. The American flag is flown for everyone to see; however, for the past two weeks, we have seen an increased amount of NFL athletes and teams either kneeling, standing, or locking arms during the national anthem.
All of this started after President Donald Trump said that owners of NFL teams should fire players for not standing during the national anthem at the start of football games.
Just last year the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick, tried doing the same thing; however, he did not get signed for any team this year due to the controversy he was bringing with him. Recently, almost all football players in teams such as the Bears and Packers on September 28th’s game were locking arms.
The Broncos have decided to stand and end their protest to show everyone that we should stand. So even though the recent events have brought some apart, it remains the athlete’s freedom to choose whether to stand, kneel, or lock arms during the national anthem.

I don’t care if they want to protest the national anthem on their own time, but when they are at a game they are working. Their job is to play the sport and entertain. When they protest during work that is a violation. They should be fired. Like I said, I’m not against them protesting the anthem, but they need to do it on their own time, or off the field.
