Junior and senior students choose their PE courses at LTHS

At LTHS juniors and seniors have the choice of what course they want to take for Physical Education (PE). Students are offered a variety of different classes where they work on different skill sets.

Mr. Todd Elkei, Department Chair of Health, Physical Education, and Driver’s Ed, says, “We recently conducted a student survey to see how we can best meet the activity interests of the students at LTHS.  We are analyzing the data to see what activities we can add to the course offerings for next year.”

LTHS is taking into consideration the courses students would want to take. PE is required by law. To graduate at LTHS a student needs at least 3.5 credits of PE classes.

LTHS provides PE uniforms and heart rate monitor straps for purchase in the bookstore.

Mr. Elkei adds, “Students should come ready for class each day ready to participate and to give their best effort.”

With the different amount of classes provided there is “more than enough equipment for all students,” Caleb Speechley, a student at LTHS states. Caleb takes Adventure Ed 1 and recommends this class simply because it is fun.

Letting juniors and seniors pick their PE courses will help them strengthen their relationship with physical activity.
