On Tuesday November 7th, Lockport Township High School hosted its second College and Career Fair at the East Campus gym and cafeteria from 6:00 to 8:30pm.

The amount of representatives increased this year compared to last year’s fair. There were 80 colleges, 50 career fields, military, and union representatives at the event.

Ms. Karen Speaker, a guidance counselor at East campus and one of the event’s organizers, also claims, “The reps see this as a very viable use of their time, and we can get them to come to Lockport Township High School. A lot of reps constantly comment [on] how articulate and respectful our students are about the high school. It encourages them to come back each year.”

Guest speaker and former financial director at Lewis University, Mr. Frank Palmasani, made another appearance this year at the Financial Planning Seminar that took place at 7:30 to 8:30 PM.  Mr. Palmasani works at Financial Fit and has written a book on college financial planning called Right College, Right Price.

LTHS principal at East Campus, Mr. Dennis Hicks, expresses his overall feeling of the College and Career Fair. “I feel the College and Career Fair is a wonderful night of communication, articulation, and awareness. Each student, with their family, have an opportunity to visit with College and Career representatives, which will hopefully begin to embrace what future path they choose as they continue to develop academically and socially at LTHS.”

Ms. Speaker, said “the excellent turnout of students and parents” was her favorite part about the fair. She also estimates “between 600 to 700 people came.”

LTHS is working on expanding the College and Career Fair for next year, and it will be impressive to see what improvements they make on the already well-planned-out event.
