Written by Sarah Albertino, Staff Writer

The nominations for the 60th annual Grammy Awards were announced on November 28th. The ceremony will take place on January 28th, 2018, at Madison Square Garden and will be hosted by James Corden. The Grammy recognizes excellence in music of a given year, and this year has many big contenders.

The biggest contender is, undoubtedly, Jay Z. His album 4:44 was released to critical acclaim and his nominations reflect on this. He leads with eight nominations and three of those nominations take place in the main four categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the year.

Other strong contenders are Bruno Mars (six nominations), Kendrick Lamar (seven nominations), and Childish Gambino (five nominations), who all received immense critical and commercial success this past year.

The competition for the Grammys will be very tough this year. All of the artists are noted for their musical talent and are very deserving of their win, regardless who gets it.
