Winter sports at Lockport Township High School provide students with opportunities to beat cabin fever and to forget the shortcomings of the fall. Students at LTHS can watch the bowling teams compete at Strike and Spare II in Lockport. With successful seasons behind them, it is exciting to see what the bowling teams can accomplish this season.

Successful teams have rosters made up of a combination of seasoned and new players. Not only does this promote a competitive team, but it keeps it fresh and fun for everyone. Mr. Art Cwudzinski, the Girls’ Bowling Head Coach, describes his team by saying, “We have a relatively inexperienced team this year.” Although the team is more inexperienced than previous years, there is still a wide range of ages.

Coach Cwudzinski describes the lineup that played their second match: “We started one sophomore, two juniors, and two seniors at the second invite; we won.”

This team has a flexible roster that will continue to improve as the season progresses. When asked about his roster’s experience, the Boys’ Bowling Head Coach Mr. Ron Davis, says,  “It is a mixture of both.”

Coach Davis also believes that this mixture is beneficial because “underclassmen can get experience with the veteran players.” Both LTHS bowling teams seem to be in a good place for not only this season but for many seasons to come.

Most importantly, fans want to know if these bowling teams can go to State. When the coaches were asked about their end of season goals, they both replied that they want improvement. Coach Cwudzinski explains he would like that “every girl is a better bowler and person when the season ends.”

Similarly, Coach Davis states, “We like to take the approach that everyone on the team is better.” Having coaches focus on the small victories is important when trying to accomplish big ones like going to State.

If watching the bowling teams interests you, their matches are played at Strike and Spare II in Lockport. Specifically, the boys’ team is hosting the Regional, on January 13th, at Strike and Spare in Lockport on Archer Avenue. Also,  make sure to pay special attention to Bailey Delrose, a four-year varsity starter, who has bowled two 300 games and already hold several school records.

Coach Cwudzinski describes Bailey in my opinion, the best girl bowler in a long line of great bowlers to come through our program.”

As for the boys’ bowling team, pay special attention to Alex Buchhaas, a senior who Coach Davis says “is certainly one of the best bowlers in our conference as well as in the State.”
