Chicago police commander killed in the line of duty
February 21, 2018
On February 13th, Chicago police commander, Paul Bauer, was shot while responding to a call at the Thompson Center in Chicago. The shooting occurred near the government office building around 2:30 P.M. Bauer was the commander of the 18th district in the near North side and was also a 31-year veteran.
It was a very difficult day for the Chicago Police Department dealing with the death of one of their commanders. The CPD does have a suspect in custody who had been arrested multiple times for various crimes.
Bauer had a wife and 13-year-old daughter. Paul Bauer was also the first police officer in Chicago shot to death since the murder of Officer Clifton Lewis in 2011. Mayor Rahm Emanuel sentimentalized, “Commander Bauer stood for the highest ideals of our police department and our city.”
