A serial bomber in the eastern part of Austin, Texas in March put everyone on edge. The first three incidents involved packages being placed in people’s lawn or porches. These events either killed or wounded three African-Americans and one Hispanic. The police had not discovered the bomber’s motive at this time, but they were concerned that his motive was “racially motivated.”

In the fourth explosion, the serial bomber used tripwire that injured two Americans. None of these victims affected by the bombings were specifically targeted. There was a total of 350 special agents assigned by the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and forensic investigators in Quantico, Virginia on this case.

In Texas, there were 100 Texas Department of Public Safety officers, sergeants, and special agents as well as the Texas Ranger Bomb Squad, bomb-sniffing dogs, intelligence agents, and helicopters who were also involved.

On March 23, Mark Anthony Conditt was found dead in his SUV after he set off one of his own bombs inside. He was confirmed dead as the serial bomber that had been keeping Austin, Texas on pins and needles for 19 days.
