Training the girls soccer team

Written by Kiley Fraider and Annie Coniglio

East Campus fields are fully in use by the members of the LTHS girls soccer team. Each team – Freshman, JV and Varsity –  have begun their practices for their upcoming season. Working hard on and off the field, the girls are preparing for a great season.

Todd Elkei, the Head Girls Coach, commented on the girls’ training, saying, “Our girls are working hard in the offseason playing club soccer, indoor soccer, and working out with Setta, the founder of Lockport’s Performance Program two days a week.”

Training with Setta is not only a way for players to improve their skills, but also allows coaches to form a relationship with the girls while working on fitness and team building activities.

The girls soccer team believes in the “T.E.A.M” philosophy
(Together Everyone Accomplishes More). Coach Elkei believes that in order to be a successful soccer player, players need to have a ‘team first’ mentality and a desire to get better everyday. In the past, the team has proven to be very successful; however, the team has experienced some hardships due to losing some of their seniors last year.

Nonetheless, the girls are on track to a victorious season with many wins. The girls have their first game against Beecher this Saturday, March 16th.
