As of August 28th, Dorian became a major hurricane. Dorian first struck the Virgin Islands and then continued to the Bahamas. The hurricane was a cataclysmic event towards the Bahamas, leaving 45 people dead with a rising death toll and thousands unaccounted for. 

The core of Dorian was in the Labrador Sea about 375 miles off of Cape Race, Newfoundland. The hurricane moved at a speed of 24 mph with tropical storm-force winds of 60 mph. It was suspected that Dorian would diminish into a smaller storm due to being “absorbed by a larger low pressure system,” according to CBS. 

Dorian left an estimated 70,000 people homeless. Search and rescue operations have been conducted within the Bahamamian Islands and about 290 people have been rescued. Relief has been augmented to help the people of the Bahamas.
