Veterans Day is traditionally celebrated on November 11th. It celebrates and honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces..It gives recognition to the sacrifices the military veterans have made to shape American history and give us the opportunities we have today. Ways to show appreciation for veterans are to donate, write to them, visit a VA hospital, and fly a flag respectfully.

Veterans Day was originally known as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919. This day was the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a legislation through the house and senate in 1926 for an annual holiday, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.

Important Veterans in history:

  • George Washington (Soldier + Founding Father)
  • Theodore Roosevelt (Colonel + Lieutenant)
  • Dwight Eisenhower ( Us. President and Military statesman)
  • General Alexander Haig (United states Army + Secretary of State)
  • John F. Kennedy (Us. President and Veteran of WW2, who received the medal of honor)
