An Attempt to Rank Every Song on Taylor Swift’s Midnights.

Written by Samantha Bradley, Features Editor

Can I ask you a question..? How does one even begin to rank a flawless album? You’d have to be a mastermind!

Taylor Swift’s newly released album, Midnights has flooded billboard charts by holding every single top 10 position and became Spotify’s most-streamed album in just one day. This album made midnights become our afternoons. Rolling Stone even labeled Midnights as an instant classic and rated it five stars. That’s a real lasting legacy.

So Midnights has been doing insanely well, here is how I would rate the perfect songs with the best lyric from each song.

  1. Maroon. This song hasn’t been getting the recognition it deserves, its powerful lyricism puts  it in the top spot. “Carnations you had thought were roses, that’s us.”
  2. Lavender Haze. This album opener caught us all off-guard, its strong electronic sound and  beat makes it a fun song to listen to. “I’ve been under scrutiny, you handle it beautifully.”
  3. Karma. Karma is a light-hearted song about revenge, what could be better than that? “Karma’s a relaxing thought, aren’t you envious that for you it’s not?”
  4. Mastermind. Have you ever plotted out a relationship? This song is for you. “I’m only cryptic  and Machiavellian ‘cause I care.”
  5. Sweet Nothing. A beautiful, simple love song written by Taylor and her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. This song is like a lullaby in the best way. “To you, I can admit, that I’m just too soft for all of  it.”
  6. Vigilante Sh*t. An angry revenge song most likely towards her ex-record label manager, Scooter Braun. “They say looks can kill, and I might try.”
  7. Labyrinth. Falling in love again can be scary and exciting at the same time, Taylor describes it  perfectly.  “I thought the plane was going down, how’d you turn it back around?”
  8. Question…?. Can I ask you a question…isn’t this song amazing? “Did you wish you’d put up  more of a fight?”
  9. Midnight Rain. A song about the golden retriever boy and the black cat girl. “I broke his heart ‘cause he was nice.”
  10. You’re On Your Own, Kid. A true track-five song, hitting us where it hurts. “So make friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it.”
  11. Bejeweled. This upbeat song about making the whole place shimmer is sure to put a smile on  your face. “Putting someone first only works when you’re in their top five.”
  12. Anti-Hero. This top-charting song has been doing amazing, unfortunately, it’s becoming  overplayed and over-marketed. “I’ll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror.”
  13. Snow On The Beach (Feat. Lana Del Ray). With a witty Janet Jackson reference and  background vocals of Lana Del Ray, this song is almost perfect, if only Lana had a line to sing.   “Life is emotionally abusive.”

I’ll be getting over you my whole life, Midnights
