Read For A Lifetime! A program to help normalize reading as a hobby for students and not something that should be looked down upon. Created by the state, this program is used to bring in book lovers and promote reading to those who despise it. Each member of the club must pick 4 of the 25 books listed and read them before April (the deadline). Although you have to read 4 books to get the certificate, the more of the 25 you read, the closer your chances are to getting prizes and getting the recognition for being considered as a top participant. This amazing program is led by Mr. Conway and Ms. Broniewicz at Central Campus, where the students participating in the club (like myself) meet once a month in the Port. Or at least, we were until the roof collapsed in one of the classrooms. Before that, the very first two meetings we had were amazing. As of right now, it is unsure when we will be back to our regular meetings considering that the Lincoln Way North Compass is only 15 minutes long, which is not enough time for a meeting.
As a present member of the club, I love the idea of Read For A Lifetime altogether. It is a great opportunity for people who love reading, but don’t love being assigned one particular book that they may not like. Read For A Lifetime gives students the book club experience with just a bit more leniency and freedom. You can pick a book that is within the genre you are interested in, or be introduced to a new genre that you never thought you would be interested in reading. Reading isn’t the only thing that takes place during these meetings. Whenever we meet, there are donuts and raffles where you can win prizes.
There are approximately 75 students in the Read For A Lifetime club at the moment, but there is always room for more. It is a very welcoming and supportive environment. I deeply recommend looking into the club if you are truly interested and love reading. So, if you’re looking for an amazing experience with a built in supportive environment, then Read For A Lifetime is the place for you. If you want to join, you can contact Mr. Conway at [email protected] whenever you get the chance.
