During the beginning of the transition to Lincoln Way North, time was a factor that remained unknown to administrators when trying to create an entirely new schedule. From mid-Novermber to winter break, it seemed as though teachers and students felt strapped for time. While the schedule might not have been perfect, this period of time allowed the administration to see what was needed to accommodate the early release of the students and later start.
After nearly two months at the temporary campus, Freshman students started the new semester with a modified schedule to accommodate both teacher and student needs. This new bell schedule includes starting Compass at 7:45 AM to start the academic school day for those who were arriving as early as 7:30 AM, but allowing others to continue to come in no later than 8:11 AM. One of the biggest challenges for students was the shortened passing period at the beginning of the transition period being only three minutes. The expansion of the school day allows for a four minute passing period relieving students of stress and possible tardies. Class periods are now 39 minutes long making both teachers and students happy to be on a somewhat regular schedule once again.
This modification speaks volumes to the adaptation of our Porters as they go from day to day willing to explore new options to make this temporary situation feel like normal once again.
