Over the weekend of April 6th the American College of Cardiology (ACC) had their annual international conference where they celebrated the 75th birthday of the organization. One of the biggest highlights from the conference was the newly inaugurated president of the ACC: Cathleen Biga. Biga has made history as being the first non-physician president of the ACC. She is also the sixth female president of the college, and the CEO of Cardiovascular Management of Illinois. Some of Biga’s goals are to provide equitable healthcare, to unite different cardiologic practices, and make young adults more aware about career pathways in the field of cardiology. It seems apparent that most young adults that are interested in healthcare are interested in the orthopedic or pediatric fields, as those are two of the most common doctors for teenagers to see. However, Biga plans to make the field of cardiology more apparent to those interested in healthcare. Biga was inaugurated during the convocation on April 8th. The company has shown signs of overall positive progress during the conference with new ideas and staff entering the organization. Altogether, the ACC’s annual conference was an extension of the company’s success in helping those with heart disease around the world!
