TikTok is currently going to be under review by the Senate, deciding its fate in America.
Last month, the House overwhelmingly passed a measure that forces ByteDance a choice to either sell TikTok within six months, or lose access to the United States’ app stores and web-hosting services.
The Senate is in no hurry to send the bill to President Biden, but Biden did state that he is against TikTok in the United States’ and if the bill ever passed his desk, he would immediately pass it.
The U.S. government has described multiple times their worries about China potentially having access to U.S. citizen’s data. TikTok’s company has assured that no U.S. users’ information would ever be shared, but the U.S. government still remains unsure.
Meanwhile, TikTok has launched a campaign to rally their users: #KeepTikTok. This initiative has been all over TikTok with multiple ads of small businesses explaining how crucial TikTok has been to promoting their own businesses. TikTok is trying to explain that it is a viable source that helps to promote all types of businesses and individuals. Users are also saying what a loss the app would be because it connects individuals from all across the world.
Makeup influencer, James Charles, gives his two cents about the House passing the measure and needless to say, he was not happy. He comments about “how shocking that a measure about TikTok was passed faster than other major problems in the United States’.” He says that it really shows how the United States’ political system works.
While it has been a few weeks since the Senate has made any progress on the bill, it does not look good for TikTok.
So what do you think…should Tik Tok be banned or not?
