The Lockport Girls Varsity Tennis team kick-started their 2024 season at home with a win against conference rival Bradley. The girls’ tennis varsity team has 11 girls on their conference lineup that play among the ranks of first singles, second singles, third singles, first doubles, second doubles, third doubles and fourth doubles. Prior to the Bradley match, the team had been having some trouble early in their season facing very tough competition; however, with this recent all-team win against Bradley, they can build off of it to hopefully win more matches in the future. The total team score was 7-0 with all of their players winning their matches. Junior Meda Bliudziute discussed her hopes for the season moving forward:
Porter Press: “How do you feel your win over Bradley will affect your team’s morality after a couple of tough losses?”
Bliudziute: “I feel like our win as a team over Bradley helped us gain confidence, especially for matches in the future. Hopefully, this experience will help us win more matches and learn new things as we go.”
Porter Press: “How do you feel about your teams’ odds of bringing home a conference championship to the school?”
Bliudziute: “I think our team for sure has better odds of a conference championship now that we’ve won over Bradley. If we work hard and put in as much effort as we did while playing Bradley, then I feel like our conference championship is guaranteed.”
Porter Press: “Thank you for your time.”
With the Lockport Girls Varsity Tennis team winning this match, they are more likely to continue to win future matches and keep the momentum throughout the season.
