Calling all ghosts and ghouls! Hayride of Horror is searching for new haunters to volunteer!
Hayride of Horror (HOH) is a family-friendly tractor ride that takes place in Dellwood Park every October. This fun Halloween event is run by Lockport Township Park District, meaning that people of all ages are allowed to volunteer. Even if you only want to try it for a night, the world is your oyster, and you aren’t required to volunteer every day.
Luz Tellez, a former volunteer at Hayride of Horror, joined two years ago due to her love of Halloween, her interest in meeting new people and the ability to participate in a unique weekend hobby. She recommends it for teenagers 14+ as teens this age will have a better understanding of their interests and can create new and long-lasting memories. In her experience, Hayride was not only a great place to get service hours but also helped her figure out who she was along the way.
Evelyn Pastrick, a junior at Lockport Township High School, also joined two years ago because of her friends who thought she would really enjoy it. She volunteers at Hayride of Horror to not only gain service hours for high school but also to hang out with her friends and have fun. She recommends that volunteers be people ages 9+ as she feels that it gives them a chance to spark a new interest, but understands that volunteering can run late. Evelyn believes that trying new things and staying positive will ultimately give you the best experience when volunteering here.
Personally, this will be my third year at Hayride of Horror. I think it is not only a great way to gain some volunteer hours, but also a great way to get a little bit out of your comfort zone. I joined because I knew it would be a new opportunity, and the thought of getting possible acting experience seemed intriguing.
If you want to see how everything runs, HOH runs every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 6 p.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday the 20 and 27. If interested in volunteering, come to Volz on Friday, October 4, and apply!
