Each year, Homecoming is a key part of every high school experience. This year’s theme was “Welcome to the Jungle” and it was kicked off on Monday with decorating the hallways. After school students dedicated time to put up craft trees, birds, posters and other themed materials. The next day, students celebrated with an indoor school assembly that included class competitions. The freshman and seniors were victorious points wise. Both won their respective first half class games with the final rain dance. The Tuesday festivities concluded with movie night where they watched Jumanji.
For the annual Powderpuff game on Wednesday, the boy poms were surely the highlight of the event. For those unaware of the event, the Powderpuff game is where all four grades of girls play football, and the boys perform poms routines. The boys were both seen and heard around the stadium with their entertaining acts. Their mid-game shenanigans included running out onto the field every time the seniors scored a touchdown, doing the wave over on the away side, laying down on the turf to spell LOCKPORT, and creating a human pyramid. The halftime performance for the Powderpuff game and school assembly had the crowd cheering the whole time at the hilarious performance. The boys poms this year brought people so many laughs, and their creativity will give future years a run for their money. This year’s Powderpuff champions were, of course, the seniors. They dominated both games, blowing away the freshman and sophomores on the scoreboard.
Nearing the end of the week, Thursday hosted the outdoor assembly for all grades. The whole school gathered around to see all the clubs walk the track and show their Lockport spirit. The games started with the girls varsity dance, girls varsity poms, and boys poms all showing their routines for the whole school. Then following that up, was the games like tug of war, knockout, relay races and much more. The Thursday event sure brought the whole school for one last fun day of homecoming week. With the hype surrounding the Friday night football game throughout the day, it was no surprise when the Lockport student section, dressed in neon, came out to support the team. Unfortunately, the game was a tough loss to Naperville North, by a score of 31-20. Although it wasn’t a W in the books, the school spirit and memories made it all the more special.
Rounding off the festivities was the annual Homecoming dance on Saturday night. It was the most hyped event of the week, with a little over half of the school showing up to dance their hearts out. Although it came to an end, the memories will stay with every student forever.
