When you’re walking around school, in class, or just in the hallways, take the time to look at people’s shoes. You’ll most likely come across at least one person wearing UGGs. Throughout the day, you can spot at least a hundred students wearing UGGS – but are they really worth the hype?
UGGs are a style of sheepskin boots that originated in Southern California in 1978. They are made of sheepskin with sheep wool-fleece on the inside, making UGGs comfortable even without socks on. Although UGGs may look comfortable and stylish, there are both pros and cons about the shoes.
In a review by Stridewise, UGGs are described as “the warmest casual boots I own; no cold feet here.” UGGs are perfect for winter because the soft wool inside the boot keeps your feet warm. UGGs are made with sustainable materials, such as plant based lycoll and repurposed wool, and are unlike the heavy boots that you usually have to wear during winter. Instead, they are lightweight, making them perfect for the winter season. The shoes can be worn can be worn indoors or outdoors, but no matter where you wear them, your feet will be nice and warm. Finally, UGGs are animal cruelty free, as the brand believes that “mulesing is cruel and inhuman.”
Although UGGs seem great, there are several cons to the popular shoes. Since UGGs are made of sheepskin, they aren’t waterproof. They were designed for dry weather, and not suitable for heavy snow and rain. This can cause damage to the materials, which can permanently ruin the sheepskin on the UGGs.
Another con is the price. UGGs may be cute, but they sure aren’t cheap. The shoes can cost from 100 to 180 dollars, and some people don’t want to spend over a hundred dollars on a pair of slippers. UGGs aren’t known for the best arch support. While they do have cushioned insoles, they don’t provide enough support for walking long distances.
UGGs have many pros and cons, and if you’re debating on getting a pair, you need to decide if UGGs are right for you.
