On Thursday, January 9 the Lockport Swim and Dive Team took on the Lincoln Way Central Knights. In the close meet in the East pool, the Lockport Varsity team just edged out their competition while the Lockport Junior Varsity crushed the competition.
In the varsity swimming events, both teams made a strong showing with just 10 points separating the Porters from the Knights. In the first varsity event of the night, LWC made a strong showing in their 200 yard medley relay with other first place finishes following. The first event the Porters took 1st place in was the 50 yard freestyle then right after in the 100 yard butterfly, with Senior Shane Gabel winning them both. Later into the meet, sophomore Colin Santiago took 1st in the 500 yard freestyle. Following the previous events, the Porters then took 1st in the 200 freestyle relay, 100 yard backstroke, 100 yard breaststroke, and ending the night with the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Similarly, the Lockport divers also had a successful night. In the varsity event, Andrew Giorgetti placed first along with debuting his new dive, a reverse 2.5. Logan Fields, also on varsity placed 3rd and JV diver Vade Elledge placed 1st.
With just about a month left until conference, marking the road to state, the Lockport Swim and Dive team will continue working hard in practice and at meets. They will be hosting the Lockport Invitational January 24 and 25.
