The most important game of the year in college football is the National Championship. This year’s game was arguably the best team in college football, Ohio State, versus Notre Dame. Ohio State went into the CFP (College Football Playoffs) as the eighth seed in the 12 team bracket. Notre Dame started the playoffs as an underdog and a team that nobody thought deserved to be there in the playoffs; however, they quickly earned their spot by beating Indiana 27-17 and made it all the way to the National Championship.
The game started with Notre Dame controlling the clock on a long 18 play drive that ended in a touchdown. However, Ohio State took control of the game after that, scoring 31 unanswered points with big plays from quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins who scored three touchdowns.
Notre Dame fought back in the second half, with quarterback Riley Leonard connecting on two touchdown passes to Jaden Greathouse, but it wasn’t enough. With the game on the line Ohio State just needed to get 11 yards to seal the win. Notre Dame decided to bring pressure leaving all of Ohio State’s receivers one-on-one which resulted in a huge gain ultimately leading to Ohio State securing the victory 34-23 with a late field goal and one last quick stop on defense. This was Ohio State’s first championship since 2014, and Will Howard was named the game’s MVP, despite some believing Quinshon Judkins deserved it because of his three touchdown performance.
The 2025 National Championship was a good game even though the scoreboard might say otherwise. Now that the collegiate season is over, it is time for the schools to start looking for some new players to recruit and replace the ones that are either entering the draft or transferring out with the new addition of the transfer portal. Both Ohio State and Notre Dame will have to prepare for the competition headed their way the next season, but both are hoping to be back to the championship next year.
