On January 21, a group of us student writers went to Lockport’s Prom Fashion Show, and we all had an amazing time. With all the fun we had as viewers, it was truly disappointing to see the lack of turnout. The event offers a creative and affordable opportunity for all students to find a beautiful dress, show porter pride, and support Lockport High School. Here is why I think you should show up next year for the spectacular show.
Prom can be costly for most, but the Prom Fashion Show ensures that every student can feel beautiful for their big night. By featuring donated gowns, this event removes financial barriers from the equation, allowing attendees and models to focus on the beautiful dresses and not the large expenses.
Even if you’re not shopping for a dress, the Prom Fashion Show is a great way to get inspired. As a viewer, I was in awe of the beauty of each dress. Before I had seen the show, I was skeptical that the dresses were going to be appealing. However, I was proved completely wrong, and by the end of the show I was adding look-alike dresses to my pinterest boards.
It also allows viewers to see a unique and diverse selection of gowns. With donated dresses coming from a variety of sources, you’re guaranteed a wide range of styles, shapes, and colors. From classic ball gowns to sleek modern designs, the options are endless. This gives you a chance to experiment with trying different styles you might have not considered before.
Supporting this event doesn’t just benefit you, it helps the entire school and community. Donated dresses and participation contribute to making prom accessible for everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. It’s a feel-good way to give back while having fun doing it.
If you don’t want to be a viewer, being a model is a great way to earn volunteer hours in a fun and fashionable way. Each student got to showcase around five dresses all the while earning volunteer hours. At the end of the night, all of the girls were entered in a giveaway for a Coach purse and gift cards. Being a model is great way to support the school, and have a fun night while doing it.
This year’s turnout meant many students missed out on the chance to find their perfect dress and enjoy this incredible event. Let’s change that next year by showing up and spreading the word. Even if you’re not looking for a dress, it’s a remarkable watch, and it supports the school community. Together, we can make Lockport’s Prom Fashion Show an event, and a night to remember.
