Lockport High School continues to create new opportunities for their students to help them in the real world. Most recently, LTHS has partnered with the Will County Center for Economic Development to provide students with the chance to apply for a paid summer internship.
These internships will provide students with valuable firsthand work experience and will help them build their resume. The opportunities cover a multitude of career options from childcare to marketing.
The Will County Center’s Director of Investor relations expressed, “our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all residents by attracting new businesses, supporting job creation, and fostering a strong local economy. A key part of that mission is ensuring that businesses have access to a well-trained workforce—and our high school students represent the future of that workforce.
The Will County Summer Internship Program was created to provide students with meaningful, career-focused experiences that build their skills, strengthen their resumes, and connect them with local businesses. By helping students explore career opportunities right here in Will County, we are not only preparing them for success but also giving them a reason to build their futures in our community. Our goal is to create a pipeline of talent that supports local businesses while inspiring students to stay, grow, and invest in the economic development of our region.”
As a student, we want to know the benefits of the program over others, and Sorenson promised, “The Will County Summer Internship Program provides high school students with invaluable real-world experience that helps shape their career paths. Through this program, students gain:
- Hands-On Experience: Interns work directly with local businesses.
- Career Exploration: Exposure to different industries allows students to discover potential career interests and gain clarity on their future goals.
- Resume Building: A structured, paid internship enhances students’ resumes, making them more competitive for future job and college applications.
- Professional Development: Students gain critical workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management.
- Networking Opportunities: By building relationships with local professionals, students establish connections that could lead to future job opportunities and mentorship.

This program is designed to be more than just a summer job—it’s a launchpad for students to develop their potential and take their first steps toward meaningful careers all while supporting our local businesses and their need for a strong, educated workforce.”
