This year, Girls Basketball Senior Night took place on February 7, 2025, versus Morris High School. Lockport’s Girls Varsity Basketball team has three amazing seniors this year; Lucy Hynes, Kayla Wagner, and Alaina Peetz. The 2024-2025 season has been nothing but success in leadership, play-making, team chemistry and wins. The Porters are 26-4 (13-2) which means they have the second most wins in the program’s history.

Thursday’s game ended in a dominant win, 67 – 46. Morris (22-3), although a strong team, couldn’t stop senior guard Lucy Hynes, as she contributed 30 points, a career high, and 6 assists. Not only did Hynes contribute on offense, but she also performed well on defense with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Another top scorer was sophomore Evelyn Ingram, with 14 points, as well as junior Laura Arstikaitis, who added 8. The boards were dominated by sister duo, Sr. Alaina Peetz and So. Katie Peetz. Alaina Peetz had 8 rebounds as Katie Peetz followed with 5 rebounds.
Now let’s meet this year’s Seniors:
Lucy Hynes (#20)
Position: Guard
Lucy came in from Ireland in the 8th grade, with not much basketball experience. She spent her freshman year on the Freshman Girls Basketball team, but Coach Jacobs quickly noticed her potential and brought her up to Varsity for her sophomore year; She has been a starter ever since. As previously mentioned, she had a career high of 30 points on senior night! She will be continuing her academic and basketball career at Illinois Wesleyan University and majoring in Finance. Way to go and congratulations, Lucy!
Kayla Wagner (#23)
Position: Forward
When asked about what the LTHS GBB program means to her she shared that, “This program has taught me how to push myself through hard times and to hold myself accountable when I need to, so it means so much to me and I’ve found some of my best friends here.” After graduation, Kayla plans on going to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to study finance. Congrats, Kayla!
Alaina Peetz (#44)
Position: Forward/Center
Being a senior meant to Alaina that her and her fellow seniors, “have the opportunity to leave the program better than when we got here and do something that’s never been done before” Alaina has definitely been strong-willed this year after missing her junior year due to a double hip surgery. She will be extending her basketball career at Saint Xavier’s University and majoring in political science! Congratulations on the comeback season and best wishes, Alaina!

Head Varsity Coach Darien Jacobs, who has only been in the program for 3 years, has clearly righted the ship this year. When asked about how this season is different from the rest, he responded with “I think our team chemistry has been better this season than my previous two seasons. I think creating an environment where everyone is comfortable being themselves and not afraid to make mistakes has fostered a culture that promotes team chemistry. We have dealt with some key injuries like most teams have, but the girls have been able to be resilient and bounce back.”

Following Senior Night, the Porters faced off against Sandburg on Tuesday February 11, and took home another win, crowning them their first ever SWSC Conference win since it was made in 2004-2005 and first conference win since the program’s SICA conference win in 1986. Lockport also was crowned the #2 seed in the Rich Township Sectional, under #1 Marist, who beat them in the Oak Lawn Basketball tournament 59-54. LTHS hosts regionals this year and the team will face either Joliet Central or Eisenhower first on Monday February 17, at 6pm. So come on out to support the Lockport Varsity Girls Basketball team! Lastly, congratulations seniors and good luck during the playoffs!
