Daylight saving time – one of the very few things that can provide happiness in one month and despair in another.
As daylight saving time has passed us once again, many are probably still wondering as to why we have it in the first place. Some say that daylight saving should be completely removed while others still argue its importance.
So if there is no clear side, then which should prevail?
Well, in my opinion, I believe daylight saving time should, and probably will be, removed entirely. The idea of it was made 100 years ago, when technology was very primitive compared to today’s age.
Initially, daylight saving time was first implemented during World War I to help the government conserve energy to save money and fund the war effort. But now, it seems to be completely unnecessary and at times, even an annoyance.
Power sources we have today are much more reliable and efficient than back then, completely eliminating the very purpose it was created for.
The sun is out for approximately the same amount of time each day, but gradually changes as to when it rises and sets based on Earth’s position. By setting the clocks forward or back, the amount of sunlight in the day is optimized, using less energy. Coupled with the fact that the probability of electricity causing expenses affecting war efforts today is incredibly slim, the need for daylight saving has been completely eradicated.
Overall, the controversy of daylight saving time and its necessity has been in question for many years. Whether or not it will really change however, is a question only time will tell.
