This year, student leaders Dayton Barrett, Ethan Posey, and Aubrey Groenendal helped to re-establish a lost club at Lockport, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The club is a place for students looking to explore their Christian/Catholic faith.
Staff sponsor, Mrs. Ludwig, defines the club as, “a club where students can come together to grow in their faith, share their beliefs, connect with others who have a similar worldview, discuss topics relevant to teenagers, and have fun in a supportive community.”
Students meet once a month on Tuesdays, where they participate in different activities that help them dive deeper into their beliefs. Dayton Barrett shares his passion for the club and explains that it “ means so much to me because it’s a reminder that faith isn’t just personal—it’s something we can live out and share with others every day.” Members, student leaders and sponsors are insistent on making sure students know that not just student athletes can join. It is a welcoming community that anyone is welcome to join at any time.
Student sponsor Aubrey says that she feels “so blessed that I am able to be a part of this organization, even if I’m graduating this year. It’s especially rewarding to see people in younger years coming to these meetings or even stepping up to lead.”
Student and staff sponsors have been overwhelmingly excited and grateful for the support of the revival of the club. Sponsors continue to encourage those looking for an outlet for their faith exploration to stop at a meeting and look at what they offer.
