The film, “My Fault” (Culpa Mia), is a movie that became very popular in Spanish-speaking countries when it was released in 2023 on Prime Video. The story revolves around a teenage girl who is forced to move from her small hometown to a mansion due to her mother’s new marriage. At first, she is very resistant, but eventually she finds friendship and love. In hopes of sharing this story to more viewers, a new version has recently been created.
Unless the audience speaks Spanish, they would have to put the English translation and subtitles on. However, many found that the words do not seem to line up with what the actors are actually saying.. Similarly, there are some cultural references and famous songs that are in “Culpa Mia” that most Americans may not understand or relate to.
Recently, in February of 2025, Prime Video released another version: “My Fault: London.” Their hopes were to get the film to reach a larger audience since it was such a hit in Spanish-speaking countries. Sure enough, this movie’s popularity grew rapidly with many scenes and videos trending on TikTok.
“My Fault: London” has a lot of success with the English-speaking audiences that it was designed for. One of the reasons for this is because the movie includes songs from famous music artists like Conan Gray and Charli XCX. Recognizing familiar artists and songs allows viewers to gain comfort and feel a stronger connection towards the movie.
Overall, Prime Video does a great job at taking this storyline, breaking the language barrier, and extending it to a new audience. Now, English speakers are able to connect with the plot in a similar way that Spanish speakers did with “Culpa Mia.” Furthermore, fans may have a reason to look forward to the future since in Spain, they made a second and third movie, meaning this may not be the end of the story for “My Fault: London.”
