Lockport Township High School’s Freshman Girls Softball Team is achieving an incredible accomplishment this season with an astounding 17-1 winning record. Their commitment to their team and sportsmanship has driven them to success, embodying what a Porter truly is.
The team’s dedication to their sport has been demonstrated from before the first pitch of the season, with many of the current players attending a pre-season conditioning starting at 5 a.m. each day. “To show up daily, in the mornings, hours before anyone else is waking up, is not an easy task,” freshman girls softball coach Alyssa Mane said. “But our freshmen came in with positive attitudes and continued to push themselves through every challenge.”
The players’ dedication and perseverance that contributed to their outstanding 17-1 record have been tested through all kinds of inclement weather, including rain, heavy winds, and even snow this season. However, these athletes never fail to bring the heat with their passion and energy.
Specifically, a huge double play from a game against Lincoln Way East set the groundwork for their incredible win and momentum for the remainder of their season. In this play, Anna Baer threw an out for an attempted steal at second base, and in response, Coley Sievers returned the ball for a play at home plate. Their collective success is a testament to the strength of the entire team, with each of the 16 girls contributing meaningfully to their achievements.
After taking the first loss after 15 consecutive wins, the girls were quick to remember “Porters are resilient,” Coach Mane emphasized. “Porters do NOT hang their heads, Porters work hard and do better.”
With this inspiring motto and philosophy in mind, Coach Mane believes without doubt that these remarkable girls will continue to impress and evolve as they pursue their passion for their sport.
