Lockport’s Girls Varsity Soccer team kicked off the second round of the Porter Cup tournament in a competitive matchup against the Bolingbrook Raiders. The Porters previously played Joliet Junior Academy at the Lockport soccer fields, which ended up in a decisive 8-0 victory with senior forward Ava Kozak netting a hat trick. As for the Bolingbrook Raiders, they welcomed the Plainfield North Tigers in the first round of the tournament in which they ended up losing in a tough 6-0 loss.

At the end of the first half, the Porters were down 2-1 with freshman midfielder, Krista Zuromskas, scoring the first goal. At the start of the second half, both teams played a very physical match with each team coming close to scoring. In a grueling effort, goals by Junior midfielder, Lily Nonte, and senior forward, Ava Kozak, pushed the Porters past the finish line into an emphatic 3-2 win over the Raiders.

“It was a tough match, but thanks to our aggressiveness and passion for the game, we came out on top with a win,” said junior midfielder Alexandra Podgorski.
Lockport Porters now move to an impressive 7-3 record following the victory against the Raiders. The Porters will now play against Lemont’s Girl’s Varsity in the final round of the Porter Cup next Tuesday.
