Vocal Point, the treble, an all female, a cappella ensemble from our very own Lockport Township High School, achieved a remarkable milestone by securing fourth place at the 2025 National Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). Finals held on April 25 at The Town Hall in New York City. This accomplishment positions them as one of the top high school a cappella groups in the nation and the number one treble ensemble.
Their journey to the finals was marked by a series of impressive performances, culminating in their 1st place victory at the Great Lakes Semifinal, which earned them the regional champion title and a coveted spot in the national finals. They have also been featured in local Chicago news various times and continue to make Lockport proud!
The group has a powerful set featuring songs such as “Temen Oblak,” a bulgarian piece, “Skyfall” by Adele, “My Immortal” by Evanescence, and “Crown” by Elise Kristine. The set uses imagery of a storm showcasing emotions of remembrance, introspect, grief and finally coming back stronger after all the hurt. They appear sharp and dynamic on stage due to the colors of blue, black, and silver in their personalized outfits. With fluid, student produced choreography and impressive vocal percussion by juniors, Ieva Peciulis and Elisabeth Torbett, their performance is unforgettable.
At the finals, Vocal Point captivated both the audience and judges. Notably, senior Gabby Costello received the Outstanding Soloist award for her rendition of “Crown,” highlighting the group’s exceptional talent. Previously at the Great Lakes Semifinal, soloist Sofia Melody also won an award for her solo performance for “Skyfall” by Adele.
This achievement is particularly significant as Vocal Point is the first treble group from the Great Lakes region to advance to the ICHSA Finals, setting the bar for future ensembles.
Their success reflects not only their musical prowess and dedication, but also the support of their community. The ensemble’s journey underscores the vibrant a cappella culture thriving in high schools across the country.
As Vocal Point returns home, they carry with them the pride of their accomplishments and the inspiration they’ve provided to aspiring vocalists in their community and beyond.
