On April 4, 2025, a Minecraft movie was released into theatres. This movie is based off of the popular video game, Minecraft. This movie stars actors such as Jason Mamoa, Jack Black, and Emma Myers. The trailer for this movie was released in February, and one moment from the trailer that caught many viewers attention was when a zombie jumped on top of a chicken and Jack Black yelled, “Chicken Jockey.”
Before the movie was released, many people were remixing the chicken jockey scene from the trailer all over social media platforms such as TikTok. This sudden fad has caused issues among moviegoers as during this specific scene many people started screaming during the scene and throwing popcorn. 13 WIBW states that the appearance of this character has proven to send many teenage viewers into a frenzy often resulting in the destruction of the theatre they are in.
Many workers all over the internet are sharing how they are turning in their two week notice due to the giant mess that the workers have to clean up after watching the movie. Workers have stated that it takes almost four hours to clean the theatre after showing.
Throwing popcorn and yelling during the chicken jockey scene wasn’t even the worst thing that happened during the movie. On a Tuesday night at Cinemark Provo 16, a person went on top of someone’s shoulders and held up a real live chicken that they had snuck into the theatre.
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, the Provo Police Department received a call about the chicken after-the-fact from a third party. It was said by online users that the people who brought in the chicken were kicked out of the theatres.
Numerous people were expecting the director, Jared Hess, to say something about everything that had been going on in the showing of his movie. His response to all the mayhem was “I’ve been watching all the videos and laughing my brains out. I don’t think that any of us would have anticipated this kind of reaction, but I’m just glad that families and friends are making memories of the movie.”
Now, various movie theatres have given workers a timed schedule of what time the chicken jockey scene comes on in theatres so the workers can go make sure that the theatres don’t get messed up. Megaplex is posting a message before each screening of the movie saying that “those who disrupt our guests and damage our theatre will be escorted out of the theater immediately by police. We will press charges for any damage to our property.”
This scene may be funny, but are the damages and consequences really worth it?
