2025 has been a packed year for horror, from the manic “Weapons” to the satirical “Companion,” showing excellence in the genre. One of the biggest stand outs that has not been talked about enough is “Together.”
“Together” follows couple Tim and Millie, played by real life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie, who move out to the countryside for a job opportunity. However, after going on a hike through the woods, strange occurrences begin happening which start causing disturbing changes in their bodies.
Despite the horrifying premise, “Together” is rather comedic in its portrayal of the central couple. Using codependency for comedic effect, this is done using red flags that are every human’s worst nightmare to create a style of humor the audience is not sure if they should be laughing.
The film’s romance would not be nearly as compelling if it was not for the chemistry of Franco and Brie. Their real life partnership makes Tim and Millie’s relationship feel more realistic and lived in. Even when the audience questions whether the two should even still be together, Franco and Brie have a deep understanding of their characters and how they feel towards each other which allows the audience to develop a deeper connection with the characters.
“Together” is an overall successful commentary on modern relationships and codependency in modern day with a slight supernatural twist.
