From the Start
Laufey is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has risen in popularity whose love for music could be attributed to her background. Her mother was a classical violinist, leading Laufey and her twin Junia to partake in classical training, for Laufey it was cello, piano, and guitar, while Junia took a liking to the violin. Junia is a big part of Laufey not only as her twin sister, but as her best friend and creative director.
Previous Albums
After the success of her EP, Laufey rolled out her debut album, “Everything I Know About Love” featuring 13 tracks and soon making her Spotify’s most streamed jazz artist in 2022.
Top tracks featured were “Fragile” and “Falling Behind”, these songs appealed to young listeners and introduced Laufey as a rising artist. “Fragile”goes into her first love after being sheltered from it, while “Falling Behind” represents the feeling of everyone around you finding love while you seem to be left behind. The dreamy melody and relatable lyrics of these songs make it no wonder why they are so popular.
Prior to her latest album, Laufey’s album “Bewitched” released in 2023, and caused her career to skyrocket. Not only was it the biggest jazz debut in Spotify history, but it earned her a Grammy Award (Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album).
A Matter of Time
Laufey released her latest album August 22nd, “A Matter of Time” featuring 14 tracks, and although the album is still new, it debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200; the most streamed song on the album is “Lover Girl” while Lauvers, her fans, have some fan favorites like “Too Little, Too Late.” Laufey also revealed in May that the A Matter of Time tour would begin this September 15 with Suki Waterhouse as the opener.
Overall, “A Matter of Time” is Laufey’s coming of age album that is a leap into experimenting with new genres without losing her unique sound, positioning her as a cross-genre artist. Laufey is able to bring jazz to a new generation by blending timelessness with vulnerability which makes it worth a listen.
