“It was super adventurous and the plot was very quick paced, no slow spots. The romance was pretty good too. The characters were very developed, and it was very fun to read,” said a senior at lTHS; Julia Meyer.
The book “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros is a fantasy romance novel. This book is filled with suspense, concealed emotions and powerful thoughts. The protagonist, Violet Sorrengail, is a young woman who is attending Rider Quadrant at Basgiath War College which is a military institution in the Kingdom of Navarre. She is meant to face some challenges, meet new people, and figure out if she has what it takes to be a rider instead of a scribe and who she really is.
This is a book that will leave the readers immersed in another world until the last page. It will leave you wanting more and luckily there are two other novels, “Iron Flame” and “Onyx Storm”, with a fourth wing book in the making. “Fourth Wing” stands out from the rest of the novels in the series because not only is the reader introduced to many different things, but the character development from the protagonist that will get you hooked. Rebecca Yarros did an amazing job with this book by having her readers hooked and leaving them yearning for more.
I fell in love with “Fourth Wing” because of the interesting things that one wouldn’t be able to find in any other fantasy-romance book, such as how thoroughly the characters are described and the creativity of the things described. A fantasy novel cannot be one without an unknown world, powers, or some sort of non-existent animal, yet “Fourth Wing” has everything and is written in a technique that will have you wondering if this book is even a fantasy because of the in depth way that everything is written, it almost seems as young adults in a regular college.
The tension between Violet and Xaden, the supposed antagonist, is intense and leaves the readers yearning for more interactions. At first, they have a family conflict and envy each other, then eventually evolve into a deep passionate romance that will keep readers on their toes. Their relationship is forced proximity, deep connections, and mutual support. Violet also has to go through conflicting challenges, external threats, and develops personal growth. When you read this book, you will personally feel connected to each character even if you can’t find anything in common because of the depth at which she writes her characters.
I give this book a strong 5 stars and believe it will leave all young adults hooked.
