Summer Festivities
June is soon approaching and that means that school will be out and summer will be in full force. Cue the summer festivals! The summer is packed with festivals all around the Chicagoland area. Whether you live in Lockport, Homer Glen, or you will be spending time in Chicago, you will find some fun to add to your plans.
From June 18th-21st, Lockport will kick off its Old Canal Days in downtown Lockport. The annual parade for Canal Days will take place on that Friday, the 19th. At this fest, kids can enjoy the carnival rides while parents can walk right over to the Beer Garden. During this weekend, there will be live music from different bands, a food court, tours around downtown Lockport, the Artisan Faire, bingo, and duck races.
Homer Glen hosts their annual summer “Homer Fest” starting June 26th at the Township Sports Fields off of 151st Street. For free, anyone can experience the festival’s fireworks at night. Like Canal Days, Homer Fest provides rides for people at a reasonable price. Also at Homer Fest, you will find music and food to keep you busy after you had your dose of carnival rides. The festival’s parade will be held on June 27th. Sunday, June 28th will be the last chance for everyone to visit the carnival, listen to music and eat as many funnel cakes as you can!
The Taste of Chicago will take place from Wednesday July 8th to Sunday July 12th. The world’s largest food festival gives people the opportunity to sample some of the best food around the Windy City for free admission. The festival will take place on the city’s lakefront, in Grant Park. Wednesday through Friday, the Taste of Chicago will be open from 11am-9pm. On Saturday and Sunday, Grant Park will be open from 10am-9pm.
The 3-day music festival, Lollapalooza, will run from July 31-August 2. One of the biggest music festivals in the world is held in Grant Park, selling $110 for a single-day pass. The lineup consists of Paul McCartney, Sam Smith, Walk The Moon, Kid Cudi, Florence + The Machine and many more.
