Senior Night is a tradition participated by many highschool sports teams with the goal to celebrate and recognize the work the graduating class has put in throughout their past four years. Many of Lockport’s sports programs celebrate this tradition, including our Varsity Softball team. On May 22, the 8 seniors on Lockport Varsity Softball were recognized for their contributions and commitment to the program.
Seniors Kelcie McGraw, Leah McElligott, Liliana Janeczko, Marcy Curry, Marie Baronowski, Mikayla Cvitanovich, Rheanna “RJ” Slavicek, and Skye Vargas, have all dedicated most of their lives to the sport of softball. Lockport hosted their celebratory Senior Night game against the Andrew T-Bolts with hours of laughter, tears, memories and celebration following their win with the score of 7-5.
Lockport celebrated with the juniors on the team recognizing the seniors by organizing speeches, making gift baskets and decorating the field with posters and banners. In addition, a baby photo guessing game was played. The game ended in a big tie, but in the end, after many competitive rounds of rock paper scissors, junior Addison Way won.
During the game, the parents of the seniors recorded the batting announcement and chose their walk up songs for the game. Seniors made a “final trot” around the bases and were greeted at home plate by their family members while the song “Home” by Phillip Philips played. It was a tear-filled moment from both teammates and members of the crowd.
Senior Night commemorates the hard work the graduating players have put into the LTHS Softball program over their past four high school years. This tradition fuels team bonding and appreciation for upperclassmen who lead the field as role models to all. Good luck to the seniors and Varsity team as they head into playoffs to end their season. Congratulations, Class of 2025 Porters!
