On Friday, Oct. 3, LTHS faced off against Naperville Central for one of the most anticipated games of the season, the homecoming game. Fans filled the stadium with neon colors all hoping that their team could come up with a win in one of the biggest games of the season. The Porters were able to live up to the expectations and ended up winning the game by a score of 14-7 in overtime.

Prior to this game, the Porters sat at a record of two wins and three losses, with their losses coming from quality opponents like Lincoln-Way East, Homewood Flossmoor, and Lincoln-Way West. This was a crucial game for the Porters because this win would keep them in contention for a chance to make the playoffs.
This game was a battle for the Porters as the score was close all game long, and they were even tied with the Redhawks for half the game. The defense was consistently strong all game, limiting Naperville Central to 7 points through four quarters of football. At the same time, the Porters offense was only able to score 7 points after four quarters, meaning that the game was going to head into overtime.
Once the game entered overtime, tension had risen in the stadium, fans all eagerly watched to see if LTHS could find a way to win. The Porters were the first team to score in overtime when senior running back Chris Miller ran the ball up the middle for a touchdown. This left the Redhawks with no other option except to score a touchdown in return to keep the game going. However, they could not accomplish this feat and the game ended 14-7 in Porter’s favor.

“It felt good to win this game. It’s a turn in the right direction for this team and picking up back to back wins was something we really needed in order to keep the momentum going forward,” stated senior offensive lineman Cole Sullivan when asked about the significance of this win.
With this win the Porters won consecutive games for the first time this season and their record advances to 3-3. They hope to continue to find ways to win big games moving forward and continue to fight for a spot in the playoffs. The team will be heading to Sandburg this Friday, and are looking to continue their win streak.
