The LTHS Girls Golf team has really made a statement this season with their performance at regionals, sectionals, and state. They went into their postseason undefeated with an 8-0 record and high hopes of finishing their season strong.
On Sept. 30, the Porters began by competing at the IHSA regionals match. The team earned first place and was led by two seniors: Angelica Kwak who shot 74 and earned 1st place individually, and Rheagan Boucher who scored a 77, placing 5th.
To continue their phenomenal season, the girls then moved on to sectionals where they placed second as a team, and individual Angelica Kwak, placed 2nd with a 73. With their 1st place regional finish, and 2nd place sectional finish, the girls earned their spot in the IHSA State Final, hosted in Decatur, IL on Oct. 1o and 11.
The girls who made the state team and represented the Porters include Alyssa Nenoff (26), Addyson Hill (26), Angelica Kwak (26), Rheagan Boucher (26), Natalie Mickelson (28), Adelynn Oostema (29), and Erynn Vaughn (29) as the alternate. The Porters focused, tried their best, and ended their season well by earning the 9th place title.
“I was very excited to go to state as a team. Although we didn’t play our best, it was still a great experience. We had a bunch of fun and made memories that will last a lifetime, making me really look forward to the future for this team,” stated sophomore Natalie Mickelson when asked about their state performance.
Although they didn’t qualify to the second day as a team, there were three individual qualifiers. Since Angelica, Natalie, and Alyssa, scored 79, 83, and 84, respectively, they were able to advance to day 2 as individuals. The second day, the Porters continued to shine with Alyssa scoring 84, Natalie shooting an 83, and Angelica earning a 79, meaning they all placed within the top 60% of golfers.
With this being their 3rd year in a row qualifying for state, the Porters Girls Golf team is really showing improvement and is on their way to becoming one of the most successful sports at LTHS. If they can keep up these positive upgrades, the Girls Golf team will certainly earn their spot at state again, and continue their Lockport legacy.
