If you didn’t attend the Porter Players Shower Caps Kids’ “Follow the Yellow Duck Road”, then you missed the comedy sketch of the year! The actors in the show created 24 short skits that had me laughing until my stomach hurt. My personal favorite was a sketch titled “G as in Gangnam Style?”, which was a play on when you have to spell out something over the phone. However, instead of the usual A as in Apple and T as in Tom, the secretary said “G as in Gangnam Style”, “I as in isosceles triangle”, and my personal favorite, “A as in as soon as I turned 30 I faced an existential and I could no longer stand the sight of my favorite spatula due to an unknown cause.” The show contained 7 sketches that intertwine with a Wizard of Oz theme but with a twist. For copyright, the characters of Dorothy and Toto went by Dora and Tater. They went on an adventure on the Yellow Duck Road in an effort to get home after being picked up by a twister and transported to a magical land. They of course meet three iconic friends, but they are a little different. The scarecrow was lost in a corn maze and wanted to get out to be a dancer, the Tinman was actually a metal music fan (metal, tin, get it?), and the lion escaped from his pride because he is scared of lions and doesn’t know he is one. This unlikely crew made their way through “Oz” and almost got to go home by Dora clicking her red Converse 3 times, but they decided to stay because the group loves it so much. This comedic take on a cult classic had the whole auditorium cheering, laughing, and dripping in perfectly timed sarcasm. If you didn’t attend this year, I would highly suggest checking out more performances from the Porter Players and definitely attend the Shower Caps Kids’ comedy sketch show next year! Congrats to all the actors in the show, you were all phenomenal!!
