LTHS’ Porter Players Drama Club put on this year’s spring musical, Freaky Friday. Beginning on May 9, many students, teachers, and family members showed up to watch the skilled and inspiring performance of the school’s best actors and musicians.
The Freaky Friday musical, based on the Disney reimagining of the 1976 and 2003 movies, follows mother-daughter duo Ellie and Katherine Blake. At the beginning of the musical, the two are often at odds due to their differing personalities and worldviews. However, on the day before Katherine’s wedding, they break a magical hourglass that transports them into each other’s bodies. As they race to find the matching hourglass and switch back before Katherine’s wedding day, they must live in each others’ shoes and discover that the other’s life is not as easy as they imagined.
In Lockport’s rendition of Freaky Friday, junior Tara Mastorakos starred as Ellie Blake, while senior Abigail Sanford starred as Katherine. Both actresses wowed the audience with both their incredibly strong vocal performances and acting abilities, especially as they switched from one character to another. Some other actors included Soren Moan, who played Mike, Ben Forbes, who played Fletcher Blake, Graham Carlson, who played Adam, and Lilah Gonzalez, who played Torrey. These are not the only other actors, however; many talented students performed as various side characters and ensemble members throughout the musical.
Not to be forgotten is the tech department for this musical! The construction crew built all of the intricate sets the play had to offer, including the Blake’s kitchen, the school, and the pawn shop. The sound and lighting technicians also worked hard to provide atmospheric lighting, as well as control and troubleshoot the actors’ microphones.
Congratulations to all of the Porter Players and their sponsors for putting on a successful and entertaining show! The musical certainly showcased the talent of all LTHS students involved, and I eagerly await future performances!
