On Sunday, December 10th, a 23-year-old man stumbled into Challenge Fitness in Lockport, crying out for help after being stabbed 18 times. Once police arrived, the victim was conscious, and able to provide critical information about the offender, Christian Mikolaitis. It was stated the victim sought out Mikolaitis to buy narcotics, and they were sitting in the offender’s car when Mikolaitis attacked him. The victim is now being treated at the University of Chicago, and it is believed at this time that his injuries are non-life threatening.
Mikolaitis, a 19-year-old from Elwood, was taken into custody by the Minooka Police Department at a rest stop along I-80 after fleeing police and ramming into a K9 squad car. He allegedly pulled over at the rest stop and tried to evade arrest by charging at the officers on scene once they arrived. Since then, he was transferred back to the Lockport Police Department for questioning. He has been charged with attempted murder and potentially more charges after additional police departments file for other offenses.
Mikolaitis is waiting for his pretrial detention hearing in the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
