Last Thursday, the long awaited face-off between the Windy City Bananas and Genies took an unexpected turn…

Firstly, the coaches were definitely dressed to their finest. Team Bananas were cleanly dressed with their banana tuxedos and popped collars. Team Genies were also finely dressed in all suits with an additional cowboy hat that tied in their outfits. The Genies also had a mascot in a full genie costume that brought all the rage.

Before the game, things became tense between both teams on social media. Both were posting ruthless memes of each other’s coaches and players. Bananas have been on a bit of a winning streak up until the game, and the Genies were on a losing streak. To say that this game was shocking is an understatement. 

Genies won the tip-off and immediately started the game off with a basket. Scrambling behind, the Bananas scored their first basket. The game got more interesting after that.

Chase Manegold kept the Bananas afloat, shooting multiple free throws. The Genie’s mascot tried to psych out Chase, but he held through and let those baskets swish in. Yet, the Bananas began to fall behind and the game became nerve wracking in the first quarter! Luckily, the announcer kept the spirits lively. 

Genies continued to wow the crowd with the amount of 3-point shots that they made. Genies were locked in the entire game, leaving the Bananas in their mush. The Genies’ coaches were the life of the party, constantly jumping up and down, screaming their heads off, and firing up the crowd whenever possible. Some questionable smack talking occurred between both teams, but it was still entertaining. 

After the second quarter, the game was pretty much over for the Bananas, but they never lost their spirits. Bananas were pushing through the entire game, and definitely did not make the game easy for the Genies to win. Nevertheless, the Genies won with a score of 27 to 16. 

Both teams had great sportsmanship at the end of the game, and both posted kind words on their Instagrams (@official_geniebball & @Bananasbasketball).

No one knows what luck the Genies found. Maybe they found a magic lamp, or maybe the bananas just peeled out a win for the Genies.
