April 1st is a national day known for pranks, tricks, and tomfoolery… but how do companies gain attention to get people to buy their products on this day? They play pranks! They make funny and comical posts on social media to boost their content. In 2024 specifically, many companies made fake product launches such as life-sized makeup, new food combos, or some plain and simple made up items. This helps promote companies and persuades viewers to search through the company website for the fake products and to get people to buy from them because they think the ‘new products’ are real! Companies like ITK, Kesley Jade Collections, Pizza hut, Rarebeauty, Dominos, and funny instagram accounts like Duolingo, who made a fake ‘Disney on Ice’ announcement.
Take a look at the pictures below to see some of this year’s pranks:
First up, Domino Pizza’s April fools prank about bending to some people’s dislikes about pineapple and ‘taking it off the menu’. Did you think it was real?
Rare Beauty, a brand created by Selena Gomez, had a funny idea to do a gigantic lip gloss and prank their customers that it was real! If only!
Pizza Hut posted an Instagram on April fools about a new skin care brand centered around pizza toppings.
Brooklyn and Bailey’s skin care brand ,ITK, did a prank about making a jumbo sized lip balm to promote their new lip balm they just launched: a nourishing and smooth lip balm that protects your lips and hydrates them!
All of these companies and more are doing their part to continue to gain customers and hold their audience. Which one fooled you the most?
