Fans nationally were disheartened on December 30th, 2016, by the news stating that Austin Carlile of Of Mice and Men was leaving the band due to health problems. Because his symptoms of Marfan Syndrome were getting too rough for the lead singer to handle, the band had to cancel the remaining shows of its European tour in October 2016.

Since the music has a lot of screaming, it was causing Carlile a variety of pain and stress.

Marfan Syndrome generally affects people with long limbs and a tall frame, and the frontman definitely fits those requirements, being 6’4” and slender.

The disorder negatively affects material in the human body that supports organs and other systems in the body. After being apart of the band for around seven years and suffering from this syndrome for all of his life, he teared his back in almost four different places.

“These three tears in my spine, plus a fourth that occurred a year prior, were signs that I was absolutely not able to scream anymore,” he says.

As Carlile confirmed his departure on Twitter, his fans and band mates made sure he knew he is being supported through his struggles. Nevertheless, Of Mice and Men will continue the band with the remaining four members, according to the Alternative Press.

Along with the sad news concerning Of Mice and Men, David Escamilla, one of the vocalists in another band, Crown the Empire, stated that he was departing as well. He left his fans with a simple tweet stating, “You will understand soon,” which leads music officials to believe that he may be a part of a development of new music.

After the band heard the surprising news, the second vocalist, Andy Leo, tweeted “and now back to our regularly scheduled programming,” as the band will continue making music in its normal routine.
