A genocide is the deliberate and systematic killing or persecution of people from a particular group identified as having a shared ethnicity, nationality, etc., with the intention of partially or wholly destroying that group. Most people think that genocides are just something from the past, but they are actively happening around the world.
While some people think of it as a war, what’s happening to the Ukrainians is a genocide. It began in 2022 with Russia attacking the Ukrainian people. Putin claimed that his purpose was to return peace to Ukraine, but later on it was revealed that he truly wanted Ukraine to become a part of Russia. As of 2025 only, over 12,000 people were killed.
Since 2023 alone, the death toll in Palestine has exceeded 75,000. This includes the time since a “ceasefire” was set. In August of 2025, the World Health Organization declared a famine in Gaza that began due to the start of the genocide. Then there is the way the IDF tortures the Palestinian hostages and one way is having them chained underground in cells, away from sunlight with no necessities provided and some are so mistreated that they die before even being able to leave.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has been suffering from a genocide since 1994 yet it remains to be one not known to the public. With more than eight million dead since the start of the war, there is still little to no resources being provided in aid for Congonians. So many causes played a part in the start of this genocide such as poor governance and poor management, but the main reason is due to conflicts within ethnic groups. There has been tension in countries in Africa, like Congo since the Berlin Conference in the late 1800s when European leaders decided on ways to split up Africa without care for the present native groups. Congo was unfortunately one of those countries, but conflict only arose much later. This is a genocide that many experts call a “silent genocide” due to the low publicity of it.
Nobody should be killed because of their race or religion, yet that is what’s happening in Myanmar. It is a country in the South-East of Asia suffering from a civil war that has led to hurting thousands. Over 140,000 are dealing with starvation because they are forced to stay at camps instead of their homes along with over 20,000 dead.
All of this started in 2017 when out of nowhere, the Myanmar army raided homes forcing thousands to Bangladesh, specifically targeting Muslims. According to some, they have even committed crimes against humanity due to the government specifically targeting air strikes to displacement camps, hospitals, places of worship and schools causing thousands to flee. When you are forcing people from their homes, cutting off basic aid and killing inocent human beings you are participating in a genocide .

None of the innocent people from the countries listed above and ones not listed deserve to go through such suffrage just because of their race, religion or because of political leaders’ actions that cannot be controlled. Sometimes, here in America, the public is unaware of these genocides because this country participates in the inhumane killing of all countries listed above including, Palestine, Ukraine, Congo, Myanmar and more so we must be the ones to help them. All of the suffrage from people in oppressed countries have lost their ability to speak and we are the voice they need.
