Tragedy at Orland Square Mall

On January 21st, a shooting occurred at the Orland Square Mall at Orland Park. Eighteen-year-old male, Javon Britten, was killed during the tragic incident. Britten was shot near the food court, but was found in critical condition by the escalators.

Police were unable to locate the shooter immediately, causing there to be a manhunt. The shooter, Jakharr Williams, was issued a warrant for brutally killing Britten. Williams escaped mall before police arrived.

According to Deputy Police Chief, Joseph Mitchell, the shooting was an “isolated incident.” Britten and Williams knew each other prior to the occurrence. As of now, Williams is in custody and is awaiting for what his charges will be.
