What is L-Town?
It’s a tradition that no one can quite explain, but everyone accepts it. It’s Lockport’s Royal Family. They don’t have any jurisdiction, but the student body supports this organization. The group attends games to hype up the student section by leading chants and cheering on the team. Overall, their goal is to promote Porter Pride and support our sport teams. It’s a fun tradition to take part in, and is most popular during Homecoming Week.
Who’s in it?
Clover Voulgaris, Nate Byrdak, Drew Gallagher, and Megan Consigny
Who decides who’s in it?
The previous members select who they hand it down to. Last year’s members were Jake Moerman, Trey Ringleston, Addison Foster and Layla Sweis.
They pick two girls and two boys that are high spirited and attend all of the games. If you want to be in L-Town, as a junior, you should go all out with the themes, scream the loudest at games and make yourself known, so you can be chosen for the following year.
Traditionally they do not choose male athletes, because L-Town always attends the games rather than playing in them. It defeats the purpose of being a part of the group if one cannot be in the stands at the game. In addition, Drew is on both the basketball team, and he is the quarterback, his position has been quite a scandal among students.
What do they do?
The L-Town plans themes for all of the games and pre-game events such as senior tailgates. They work with Mr. Dwyer, who acts as a club sponsor, to approve themes even though they aren’t an official club. How is this year’s L-Town doing so far?
Some students think that the L-Town people need more energy at the games. They could improve on their leadership skills, because attempts at chants are going unnoticed and ignored.
What happened to the paddle???
First of all, the paddle that appears in numerous instagram posts is used to represent guiding our ship (Lockport) to victory. It unifies the student body under one symbol. Our paddle has the signatures of previous L-Town leaders on it.
The paddle went missing at the end of 2022-2023 school year. We discovered that the paddle-boys (a group of boys that were almost like the barstool account) had stolen the paddle, sanded off all of the signatures of past L-Town leaders and broke it by playing wiffle ball with it at the Marist vs. Lockport softball game.
Thankfully, it’s since been returned and fixed.
Who are the paddle boys?
This group is the “barstool” of Lockport. They promote sports and post short videos to make people laugh and make the players feel more relatable. They post memes, “almost Friday” pictures, and fail videos sometimes. This group is more for the students, while L-Town is for everyone.
L-Town and the Paddle Boys are social media based and mostly student run groups that are formed to entertain the LTHS community. It supports our positive culture and promotes sports, mostly football. Let’s hope they step it up this year and make it memorable.
