On Friday, Jan. 9, the Lockport Township Girls Wrestling Team went up against Joliet Central for their annual senior night. Senior night is a tradition where high school sport teams celebrate senior players because they have shown both commitment and dedication to the team. This serves as a final send off and celebration before the seniors go on to graduate.
Eight senior wrestlers were recognized for their contribution to the team: Ava Holzhauser, Carissa Alleman, Claudia Heeney, Dakota Obbish, Kyleigh Green, Lola Gordon, Mayra Vicencio, and Sophie Kelner. One senior had a bigger day than the rest, as Sophie Kelner was awarded for getting her 100th win after her match.
After Lockport had won all four exhibition matches, every one was riled up just waiting for the seniors’ turn. This was a very exciting day for everyone, the cheers were heard all around the room. By the end the Lockport Girls Wrestling Team had won 54-27.

“It was bittersweet, because I love the sport so much. I’m sad this year is going to be one of my last. But at the same time I’m really excited to see where the future takes me! I’m glad to have had the experience I did on the Lockport girls wrestling team,” stated senior Ava Holzhauser when asked how she felt now that the season is coming to an end.
This senior night was recognizing all of the hard work that the wrestlers have put into their sport during their time at LTHS. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2026!
