This past weekend, the Lockport Swim and Dive Team competed at the IHSA State Finals in Westmont.
On the first day, Feb. 27, 2026, all state-qualifying athletes competed in the preliminary rounds before advancing to the finals. The divers started in the morning, which featured seniors Andrew Giorgetti and Logan Fields.
After the preliminary round, where each diver dove five times, the top 20 divers advanced to the semi-finals. From Lockport, Andrew Giorgetti advanced into the semi-finals, placing 16th in the first round with a score of 211.70.
Logan Fields did not advance after placing 27th with a score of 190.10. Going into the semi-finals, Giorgetti needed to be in the top sixteen to advance to the finals, which he achieved after three more dives, finishing in 14th with a score of 317.00.
As the day progressed, the swimming preliminaries began in the afternoon with Lockport swimmers competing in six events, including: the 200 yard free, 50 yard free, 500 yard free, 200 free relay, 400 yard free relay, and the 200 Medley relay. While these swimmers competed valiantly, none of them were able to qualify for the finals.
Going into the second day, Sat. Feb. 28, 2026, Giorgetti represented Lockport in the finals, placing 15th with a score of 414.90.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling. I have spent the past six years of my life diving year around. I have been burnt out for a while, but I still feel like I am giving up part of myself. Although my last three dives at state weren’t the best, I am happy I placed and ended it on a good note. I will miss the dive team and the coach. They have truly helped me grow both in the sport and as a person,” expressed Giorgetti.
He ends his diving career defined by success and breaking the Lockport freshman/sophomore records his sophomore year and receiving MVP for the seaon at the team’s end of the year banquet.
